5 Star Demolition & Junk Removal provides professional junk removal in Islip, NY for homeowners, businesses, contractors and property managers. Whether you are removing one bulky item or clearing an entire property, our crew handles the lifting, loading, hauling and cleanup.

The Town of Islip runs a genuinely good residential program, and for a few bags and a couple of bulk items it is often all you need. The moment a project turns into a garage, a basement, a renovation or a full property, the math changes. Volume limits, weight caps, vehicle size restrictions at the recycling facility and per ton disposal fees start stacking up faster than most people expect.

That is where full service removal earns its keep. One visit, one crew, one price, and the property is usable again. Our minimum for a single item pickup is $125, and if the items are already bagged and outside, that brings the number down.

Furniture and bedding

  • Couches, chairs and recliners
  • Tables, shelves and dressers
  • Headboards and wood frames
  • Mattresses and box springs

Construction debris

  • Scrap lumber, tile and insulation
  • Sheetrock, pegboard and PVC pipe
  • Carpet, rugs and padding
  • Post renovation cleanup

Outdoor and oversized

  • Sheds and fencing
  • Above ground pools
  • Hot tubs
  • Yard waste and outdoor clutter

Sheds, pools and hot tubs come apart first

These are not pickups, they are small demolition jobs with a haul attached. A hot tub needs to be drained and safely disconnected before anything comes apart, and power disconnection may require someone with the right electrical expertise. 5 Star coordinates the demolition and the hauling together, so the teardown and the disposal stay with one team instead of two vendors pointing at each other. If you are weighing this against renting a container, we wrote up dumpster rental versus junk removal in detail.

How an Islip junk removal job runs

Send photos

Text pictures of the items, the pile and the access points. Volume and access are what drive the price.

Get your number

We review labor, disposal requirements and material volume, then quote the job before we roll.

We load it

The crew handles the stairs, the basement, the attic and the yard. You do not touch a thing.

Space swept clean

Usable items get donated when practical, recyclables get sorted, and the area gets tidied before we leave.

Same day or next day service may be available depending on the project and crew schedule. Detailed photos sent up front are the single fastest way to lock in a slot, because the crew already knows the job description before arrival.

How much does junk removal cost in Islip?

Pricing depends on volume, material type, labor, access, weight, disposal requirements and whether anything needs to be dismantled first. Our minimum for a single item pickup is $125. You get an upfront estimate before removal begins, so you know the number before the truck gets loaded.

What actually moves the price

  • Volume. How much of the truck the load fills, not how many pieces there are
  • Weight. Tile, plaster, concrete and shingles price differently than an equal pile of furniture
  • Access. A driveway pickup and a third floor walk up are two different jobs
  • Material type. Some items carry their own disposal path and their own fee
  • Dismantling. Sheds, hot tubs, decks and pools need labor before anything gets loaded
  • Prep. Items already bagged and sitting outside price lower than the same pile in a basement

See our full pricing breakdown for a closer look at how loads are measured.

Why DIY rarely comes out cheaper

Islip charges $95 per ton for residential rubbish at the Multi-Purpose Recycling Facility and $120 per ton for construction and demolition debris at the Hauppauge Cleanfill. Both are credit or debit only. Add fuel, a rented vehicle, a weekend of your own labor and the round trips, and a self hauled cleanout usually lands close to a professional quote without the crew doing the carrying.

Town fees current as of this page build and subject to change. Confirm with the Town before hauling anything yourself.

Town collection and drop off versus professional removal

The Town program is built for ordinary household volume. It was not built for cleanouts, renovations or contractor debris.

Town curbside and drop off
  • Bulk metal and e-waste collected Wednesdays
  • Bulk non metal capped at three items on the last household collection day of the week
  • Everything at the curb before 6:00 am
  • Recyclables in plastic bags are not eligible for collection
  • Residential rubbish runs $95 per ton at the recycling facility
  • Nothing over 15 cubic yard capacity is allowed at the recycling facility
  • Mattresses are not accepted at the Multi-Purpose Recycling Facility
  • You do all the cutting, carrying, loading and driving
5 Star full service removal
  • No three item cap and no waiting for the right collection day
  • Renovation and contractor debris welcome
  • Mattresses, box springs and oversized items handled
  • We do the cutting, dismantling and carrying
  • Basements, attics, garages, yards and job sites
  • One visit instead of weeks of curb trips
  • Donation and recycling handled on the back end

A house cleanout, estate cleanout, renovation or commercial clear out blows past what makes sense for residential collection fast. Full service removal also means you never rent a vehicle, load a roll off dumpster yourself, or make repeated trips out to Holbrook.

Collection days, fees and accepted materials change. Confirm current rules with the Town of Islip Department of Environmental Control before you put anything at the curb or load a vehicle.

Islip residents who prefer to handle their own disposal can bring approved materials to the Multi-Purpose Recycling Facility on Lincoln Avenue in Holbrook. The facility accepts recyclables, hazardous material and electronics free of charge to Islip residents, and takes non recyclable material and household garbage for a fee.

Two things catch people out. The facility is closed Saturday, so a weekend cleanout has nowhere to go until Monday. And vehicles over 15 cubic yard capacity are turned away entirely, which rules out most rented trailers and box trucks after 11:00 am.

Recycling, donation and responsible disposal

An eco friendly junk removal service should ask what can be reused or recycled before treating a truckload as landfill waste.

Whenever practical, reusable items are separated for donation and recyclable materials are directed toward appropriate recycling options rather than dumped as mixed waste. That matters more than usual on Long Island, where drinking water comes from an underground aquifer and improper disposal works its way down into the supply.

The Town backs this up with real programs. Recyclables collected across Islip are sorted and processed at the Holbrook facility and marketed back into the recycling industry. There is a spring STOP Day for hazardous material, two free shredding events each year, an Adopt-a-Bike program for gently used bicycles, and free paper yard waste bags for residents.

Items that need a special path

  • Household hazardous waste goes to the Holbrook facility, free for Islip residents
  • Waste oil is accepted up to five gallons, and Suffolk County retailers must take it too
  • Auto and marine batteries are accepted at no charge
  • Electronics have their own free drop off and a Wednesday curbside path
  • Ammunition, explosives, flares, fireworks, radioactive material, pharmaceuticals and unlabeled containers are not accepted

We do not handle hazardous materials, asbestos, ammunition or medical waste. If your cleanout turns up something in that category, we will tell you straight and point you to the right Town program instead of quietly putting it on the truck.

Islip junk removal questions

How much does junk removal cost in Islip?

Our minimum for a single item pickup is $125. Beyond that, pricing depends on volume, material type, labor, access, weight, disposal requirements and whether dismantling is needed. A single item off the driveway is a different job than a full basement carried up a flight of stairs, even if the pile looks similar. Text photos of the items and the access route and you get a firm number before anything is scheduled.

How do I get a cheaper price on junk removal?

If the items are bagged up and already outside, that helps lower the price, because it removes the carrying labor from the job. Grouping several items into one visit also beats booking separate small pickups.

Can you come the same day?

Same day or next day service may be available depending on the project and crew schedule. Photos sent early in the day give the best shot at a slot, because we can size the truck and crew without a site visit.

Do I have to move anything to the curb first?

No. That is the entire point of full service removal. Our crew goes into the basement, attic, garage, shed or yard and does the lifting, carrying and loading. You point and we handle the rest.

Will the Town of Islip just take this at the curb?

For ordinary household volume, often yes. Bulk metal and e-waste are collected on Wednesdays, and bulk non metal pickup is limited to three items on the last household collection day of the week, all out before 6:00 am. Once a project exceeds that, professional hauling is usually faster than stretching a cleanout across a month of collection days.

Why use 5 Star instead of renting a dumpster?

Dumpsters are expensive, they can damage your driveway, and a container parked out front draws attention from the whole street for as long as it sits there. You also load it yourself. We bring the truck, load it, and leave the same day. We compared the two options in detail in dumpster rental versus junk removal.

Do you take mattresses?

Yes. Mattresses are worth calling out because the Town Multi-Purpose Recycling Facility in Holbrook does not accept them, which leaves residents calling the Department of Environmental Control at (631) 595-3630 to work out a disposal route. We take mattresses and box springs as part of a normal removal.

Do you take construction and renovation debris?

Yes. Scrap lumber, tile, insulation, sheetrock, pegboard, PVC pipe, carpet and padding are routine for us. Construction and demolition debris carries its own disposal path in Islip, which is priced into the quote so there is no surprise at the end of the job.

Can I just haul it to the recycling facility myself?

You can, with three catches. The Holbrook facility is closed Saturday and runs Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 2:30 pm. Vehicles over 15 cubic yard capacity are not permitted, and flatbeds and box trucks are only allowed before 11:00 am. Residential rubbish runs $95 per ton and all transactions are credit or debit only.

What happens to the items after pickup?

Whenever practical, reusable items are separated for donation and recyclable materials are directed toward appropriate recycling options. Anything that genuinely belongs in the waste stream goes to a permitted facility.

Is there anything you will not take?

Household hazardous waste, asbestos, medical waste, ammunition, explosives and similar materials need designated Town or State programs. The Islip Multi-Purpose Recycling Facility handles residential hazardous material free of charge for residents, and the Town runs a STOP Day drop off each spring. We will tell you which path applies rather than guess.

Do you handle rentals and commercial properties?

Yes. Landlords, property managers, realtors, contractors and local businesses across Islip use us for tenant turnovers, pre listing cleanouts, office clear outs, warehouse cleanups and ongoing job site debris removal. We also run ongoing property maintenance for managed portfolios.
