  • Historical Names: Carle Place has been known by several names over the years, including Frog Hollow and Mineola Park. The name “Frog Hollow” is still used colloquially and is the source of the Carle Place Union Free School District’s mascot.
  • William Levitt’s Experiment: In 1946, developer William J. Levitt bought 19 acres of land near the Carle Place train station and rapidly assembled 600 low-cost houses. This experiment in affordable suburban living transformed Carle Place and served as the prototype for Levittown, which Levitt began developing the following year.
  • Population Growth: The population of Carle Place swelled by 500% within five years due to returning veterans and their families moving into the newly built homes.
  • Carle House: The hamlet is named after Silas Carle, who built a 32-room house in Westbury in the 1800s. The surrounding area later took the name “Carle Place”.
  • Geography: Carle Place is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of North Hempstead, Nassau County, on Long Island. It has a total area of 0.935 square miles, all land.
